SIGNS at the Europass Cluster Meeting in Austria

On July 9th, 2010 Christina Pusswald attended the Europass Cluster Meeting hosted by the Austrian National Agency/National Europass Center. At this meeting – attended by representatives from the NECs in Liechtenstein, Hungary, Slovenia and the Czech Republic -, she was given the opportunity to present the Beyond Signs in the City Books.

Am 9.Juli 2010 nahm Christina Pusswald am Europass Cluster Meeting, das von der österreichischen Nationalagentur bzw. vom Europass Center in Österreich veranstaltet wurde, teil. Bei diesem Treffen, das von VertreterInnen des NEC in Liechtenstein, Ungarn, Slowenien und Tschechien besucht wurde, hat sie die Gelegenheit, die Beyond Signs in the City Bücher zu präsentieren.

Beyond Signs in the City flies with Bulgaria Air

The whole month of July SIGNS is flying with the airline Bulgaria air to over 30 destinations in the world. The July issue of the in-flight magazine is focused on educational topics and the Bulgarian Minister of Education Sergey Ignatov is serious and candid in his special interview for the magazine. Article about Beyond Signs in the City is published under “Top selections” and presents the editor’s choice for best practice for a project combining knowledge and travelling.

SIGNS as example for innovation at “EU English Workshop”

On May 20th and 21th, 2010, Georg Müllner (Auxilium, AT) conducted the “EU English Workshop” for representatives from various Styrian municipalities. In the course of the workshop, the innovative approach on language learning of Beyond Signs in the City was explained and the project products were presented.

Am 20.und 21. Mai 2010 leitete Georg Müllner (Auxilium, AT) den „EU English Workshop“, bei dem Vertreterinnen und Vertreter zahlreicher steirischer Gemeinden begrüßt werden konnten. Im Rahmen des Workshops stellte er auch das innovative Konzept von Beyond Signs in the City sowie alle Projektprodukte vor.

SIGNS at “Europe Day” in Austria

On May 11th, 2010, Georg Müllner (Auxilium, AT) attended the “Europe Day” organised Schulungszentrum Fohnsdorf (SZF) in cooperation with the Regional Management Upper Styria West. The event was focused on supporting and promoting the participation in EU projects. At the project fair of the “Europe Day”, the Beyond Signs in the City products enjoyed great popularity.

Am 11. Mai 2010 nahm Georg Müllner (Auxilium, AT) am “Europa Tag“ des Schulungszentrums Fohnsdorf (SFZ) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem EU-Regionalmanagement Obersteiermark West teil. Die Veranstaltung versuchte, die Teilnahme an EU Projekten zu fördern und zu unterstützen. Auf der Projektmesse des „Europa Tages“ erfreuten sich die Beyond Signs in the City Produkte von großer Beliebtheit.

Project presentation during the Discourse, Culture and Representation conference, 23 and 24 of April, Miercurea Ciuc, Romania; Presenter: Levente Dosa, Soros Educational Center. The audience really liked the idea of the project and the products too (they get a copy of the booklet, and they watched the movie of Csikszereda).

On March 12th, 2010, Christina Pusswald (Auxilium, AT) participated in the C-E.N.T.E.R. Dissemination Conference "Giving Sisyphus a Hand - Challenge and Reality in EU Project Marketing" in Graz Austria. The conference was attended by about 90 people representing 56 organisations from 15 European countries. At the project fair, Christina Pusswald had the opportunity to present the Beyond Signs in the City products to the attendees of the conference.

Am 12. März 2010 nahm Christina Pusswald (Auxilium, AT) an der C-E.N.T.E.R. Konferenz mit dem Titel „Giving Sisyphus a Hand - Challenge and Reality in EU Project Marketing" in Graz, Österreich teil. Bei der Konferenz konnten ca. 90 Besucherinnen und Besucher von 56 verschiedenen Organisationen aus 15 Ländern begrüßt werden. Die Projektmesse bot Christina Pusswald die Gelegenheit, den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern die Beyond Signs in the City Produkte vorzustellen.

The scenario of the film "Signs in Nafplio: A city to love" is looking for an answer, why people love the city. The vice-mayor of Nafplio gave strong support to the filming process and even took part in the movie...

In this visit participated the film crew - Reneta Palova, Georgi Dimitrov and Yovcho Kalchev, our host Ana María Martín Castillejos and our actress - Krista Yordanova.

The story in the film "Signs in Alacala de Henares" is about an Erasmus Student who is revisiting the city a year later. Now she is spending time to walk the same streets, to visit the same place and maybe meet some of her old acquaintances.

The team - Reneta Palova, Malgorzata Szwaj, Jean-François de Kriek, Georgi Dimitrov and Yovcho Kalchev with the strong support of the local partners: Zsófia Pal, Csilla Lazar, Erika Kocsis and Levente Dosa, and the artistic assistance of Plamen Goranov turned the photography and filming work into enjoyable adventure.

The story of the film "Signs in Csikszereda/Miercurea Cuic" involves local boy showing the city to a foreign girl. All the historical and cultural sights of the city are included in the movie.

20-25 June 2009, Bad Radkersburg, Austria Working visit for photography and filming

The team – Christina Pusswald, Reneta Palova, Katerina Kolyva, Jean-François de Kriek, Malgorzata Szwaj, Georgi Dimitrov and Yovcho Kalchev worked for the photography and filming in the rainy cities of Bad Radkersburg and Gornja Radgona on the both sides of the river Mur – the border between Austria and Slovenia.

The film "Signs in Bad Radkersburg & Gorna Radgona" shows two small cities on both sides of the border. One rainy day a boy and a girl walking each in his/her city; their journey from their "homes" to the meeting spot runs in a parallel way – they are doing the same things, passing by similar city signs until they finally meet...

The whole team - Reneta Palova, Katerina Kolyva, the photographer Jean-François de Kriek, the production consultant Iliya Iliev, the cameraman Yovcho Kalchev, the local partners Io Casino and Monike Nicolas, and our youngest team member Peter - followed a list of places of interest for the photography and filming.

Since the spirit of the quarter is artistic, the film "Signs in Gracia: A town in the city" is a walk in the city and meeting with different artists - musician, painter, actors, and traditional performers – castelleros, bastoners.

17-21 May 2009, Gdansk, Poland Working visit for filming

The film production team - Reneta Palova, Georgi Dimitrov - production consultant, and the cameraman Yovcho Kalchev, together with Bartosz Czerwiński – author of the film story, Dorota Kaniak-Szymkiewicz, and the actors - Monika Domańska and Tomasz Szymkiewicz worked hard during the three filming days.

In the film "Signs in Gdansk: The Treasure Hunt" there are 2 tourists arriving in Gdansk. Each of them is given just a half of the same map of Gdańsk with a treasure trail on it. The task of the tourists is to visit all these places on the map, in order to collect letters /in each place/ for the final password and the treasure.

3-8 May 2009, Izmir, Turkey Working visit for photography and filming

The photographer Jean-François de Kriek and Ufku Erel followed a list of places of interest for the photography. It would be impossible to provide a full and comprehensive list of all the photos that were taken during the visit but they will be published in the book "Signs in Izmir".

The film production team led by Reneta Palova and including Iliya Iliev, production consultant, Yovcho Kalchev, cameraman and Ivan Ivanov, assistant, started filming on Wednesday 6 May and finished filming on Friday 8 May. They worked together with JoAnne Noonan and Beril Sarayköylü.

A film scenario of "Signs in Izmir: City of many faces" was designed that involved the story of a young American student visiting Izmir, and looking to buy a special gift for his professor, and a Turkish girl talking about her city. The film involves discussions in English and Turkish, accompanied by Izmir scenery and moments of everyday life. Cast: Idil Özer, Ayşegül Selçuki and Evan Russell.

8-12 April 2009, Birgu, Malta Working visit for filming

The filming in Birgu, Malta was organized during the Easter celebrations. Beside the beautiful city bearing the signs of history and the signs of peaceful everyday life, we have filmed the ongoing activities held in Birgu, being:
- on 9th April, 2009 (Maudy Thursday) where part of the City of Birgu has been lit off from Street Lightning and lighten up with Candles. Around the core of Birgu there were ongoing re-enactments of the Passion of the Christ.
- Friday 10th April, 2009 (Good Friday) - procession with statues and also re-enactors.

We were guest of His Excellency Fra. John Edward Critien, the Knight Resident of Fort St. Angelo. St. Angelo had been, together with the town of Birgu itself, the first home of one of the most ancient religious Orders of the Catholic Church - the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta, on the island of Malta in the 16th century.

During the filming we were pleased to have the amazing guiding of Dr. Flavia Zimmerman, who the put together a comprehensive and enticing overview of Birgu's salient facets, from the domestic to the divine. And of course she became narrator in our film.
