Bad Radkersburg (Austria) & Gornja Radgona (Slovenia)
Feel the cities
In regard to the names “Bad Radkersburg” and “Gornja Radgona” there are numerous hypotheses:
- One explanation is that they come from the Slavic word “rak”, which means „crab“, or from the name of a distinguished Slovene nobleman called “Radigoij”.
- Another theory is that they derives from the German first name “Radger” (“help-spear”).
- This interpretation appears to be logical considering the meanings of “Burg” (castle) and “Radger” and underlines that the town was a spear against attacks.
